Welcome Back to Batoche!
The 2014 Festival will honour our Metis Veterans as the first monument in history is erected at the Batoche Cultural grounds. This recognition has never been given to Metis Veterans who fought and sacrificed for our country. In conjunction with the festival, 80 youth known as ‘Honour Runners’ will be running 100km from Saskatoon to Batoche in tribute to a Metis Veteran. On Saturday, July 19th, at 10:30am the ceremony to unveil the monument and honour these brave men and women will commence.
Join us for four days of celebrations, July 17-20th that will get your heart pumping with jigging, fiddling, square dancing, evening entertainment, old time dance, workshops, and traditional games.
Back to Batoche Days welcomes Métis people, First Nations and non-Aboriginal to share the Métis Nation’s commemoration of their culture, traditions and heritage. It is the time and place when and where the Métis memorialize and pay homage to their national heroes and encourage knowledge sharing between the generations. Thousands of people are expected to travel to “Back to Batoche”, this summer to participate in the festivities.
